Since September 2023, Lisa Ansems has been working as an assistant professor at the Institute for Criminal Law and Criminology at Leiden University. She is affiliated with both the Criminal Law department and the Criminology department.

In the previous years, Lisa worked at the same Institute as a postdoctoral researcher, where she carried out work for the Institutions for Conflict Resolution (COI) research program. Before coming to Leiden, Lisa conducted PhD research at Utrecht University, where she focused on perceived procedural justice from the perspective of defendants in criminal cases. Lisa continues her research into perceived procedural justice within her current line of research, combined with a focus on concepts such as trust and legitimacy, partly within the context of (corporate) environmental crime.

In recent years, Lisa has been involved in several other empirical legal research projects, including research into problem-solving justice, the complaints procedure under Article 12 of the Code of Criminal Procedure and class justice in the Dutch criminal justice system. Lisa's research has been published in national and international academic journals. She also presents her research at national and international conferences and teaches classes for bachelor's and master's students, PhD students and professionals.
