J. R. (Judith) Kroep is internist-oncologist at the Department of Medical Oncology and Professor of Medical Oncology, specialized in immunotherapy for gynecological tumors. She also chairs the Medical Oncology Research Committee at the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), chairs the Medical Oncology Chamber of the Dutch Gynecology Oncology Group (DGOG), is a member of the Dutch Cancer Society (KWF) assessment committee, and chairs the Gynecological Cancer Group of the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC-GCG).

Medical Oncology
The treatment of gynaecological tumors is a multidisciplinary process in which we provide patients the best possible and innovative treatments.
She is the principal investigator of several translational studies, including the OVACURE studies on adoptive cell therapy (TIL) for epithelial ovarian cancer, the RAINBO MMRd-GREEN study on adding immunotherapy to standard treatment for high-risk MMRd endometrial cancer, and precision therapy for gynecological tumors.
She aims to strengthen the connection between the laboratory and the clinic, as well as between departments and organizations, both nationally and internationally, to improve the clinical outcome of patients with cancer through collaborative research.
Context: Immunotherapy and personalized treatment align with the National Science Agenda, rare gynaecological tumors with the LUMC centers of expertise accredited by the NFU with the LUMC strategic plan.
Academic career
Judith Kroep studied Medicine at Leiden University and obtained her doctorate from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam for her dissertation (2003) entitled "Preclinical and Clinical Pharmacology of Gemcitabine and Combinations with Paclitaxel and Cisplatin." She trained in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology at the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC). In 2025, she was appointed Professor of Medical Oncology at the Department of Medical Oncology, LUMC. Her inaugural lecture will take place on June 29, 2026.
Awards and Honorable Appointments
For her translational research, she has received several (international) grants from the Dutch Cancer Society (KWF Kankerbestrijding), Pink Ribbon, OVACURE, and WCRF. In 1998, she received the AACR Oncology Clinical Research Scholar Award and the 23rd ESMO Travel Award, and in 2020, the OVACURE Innovation Challenge Award and SITC Team Award.
