In March 2020, Johan Jan Beukman started working at the Leiden Leadership Centre as a PhD candidate. The Leiden Leadership Centre is part of the Institute of Public Administration. As a PhD researcher, he will be focussing on leadership within public organisations (e.g. ministries and municipalities) as part of the programme 'Verder met publiek leiderschap'. The research programme contributes to the continued knowledge development regarding public leadership. Johan Jan Beukman obtained a bachelor's diploma in Computer Science and a master's diploma in Public Administration: Management of the Public Sector. For his master's research, which he conducted in collaboration with research institute CWTS, he took a closer look at the influence environmental factors have on the mental wellbeing of promovendi. Between 2017 - 2019, he also worked as a policy advisor for the University of Applied Sciences Leiden. As a result of his background, he has a great interest in the functioning of public organisations and their role within society. His experience as a policy advisor in higher education has provided him with the necessary insights into the challenges that public organisations might find themselves faced with. With his research he hopes to contribute to the knowledge development regarding public leadership, thus enabling organisations to be able to and continue to learn from each other.
