Jill den Boer started her PhD for the COMBINED project in March 2025
Professional experience
Jill obtained her BSc degree in Psychobiology with a minor in Business Administration in 2021 at the University of Amsterdam, focusing on neuromarketing using fMRI and EEG systems. In 2024, she graduated cum laude at the VU Amsterdam with a MSc in Ecology and Evolution and a major in Science Communication. Her ecological master’s thesis investigated the evolutionary preservation of chemical communication systems between arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and plant species at the Kiers Lab. In her Science Communication thesis, she observed how scientific institutes communicate about science on social media and hereby influence the perception of science for society.
Research topic
Jill’s research focuses on climate change interactions with (peri-)urban nature to provide management tools for Dutch urban climate resilience. Her research is part of the COMBINED project (link) that aims to 1) unravel biodiversity-climate interactions in Dutch landscapes, 2) evaluate the effects of existing strategies on biodiversity recovery and ecosystem services and 3) identify obstacles to implementation of climate resilience strategies.
