Jet Bussemaker (1961) is professor Policy, science and societal Impact, in particular in health care, at Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) and the Faculty Governance and Global Affairs (FGGA) at Leiden University.
Policy, science and societal impact
With her interdisciplinary approach Jet Bussemaker wants to bridge scientific knowledge with policy design and implementation, and the way professionals deal with policy goals in concrete situations. For example, she works on reaching groups in society with the poorest health conditions, taking into account individual factors such as gender and ethnic background (intersectionality) and societal factors such as political institutions and policy presumptions in the theoretical approach. She is especially interested in a capability approach in health (or the lack of effective capabilities among citizens), the relation between formal and informal care and new concepts of healthcare and health care policies.
Academic Career
Jet Bussemaker obtained her PhD (1993, cum laude) in Political Science at the University of Amsterdam. She worked at the University of Amsterdam and the Free University in Amsterdam as researcher and lecturer. In 1997 she was visiting fellow at the Center for European Studied at Harvard University. In 2011-12 she was Provost of the University of Applied Science in Amsterdam, and member of the Executive Board of the University of Amsterdam
