Biography

Gideon Kersten is a vaccinologist and department head at the Institute for Translational Vaccinology, InTraVacc, in Bilthoven, The Netherlands. He is responsible for the analytical development and vaccine formulation development at InTraVacc. He has a master in Biochemistry (University of Leiden) and holds a PhD in Pharmacy on subunit vaccines (University of Utrecht). His research interests are in the development of antigen delivery systems, adjuvants and needle free delivery systems for vaccines, systems vaccinology and stabilisation of vaccines. Needle free delivery comprises dermal and mucosal vaccine delivery. Stabilisation comprises lyophilisationand spraydrying. With regard to analytics his interest is focused on the characterisation of (protein) antigens with immunochemical and physico-chemical techniques and the development of in vitro alternatives for animal testing.
