Research on sustainable behavior change

What enables us to sustain healthy behavior? De Buisonjé's research revolves around this question. His goal is to achieve sustainable behavior change, for example among people with cardiovascular diseases. To accomplish this, he combines the use of wearable technology ( wearables) with financial incentives. He collaborates closely with commercial partners, healthcare providers, and governments to do observations and conduct experiments. His expertise lies at the intersection of product development, scientific research, and policymaking.

Healthy Society Map

Upon completing his dissertation, De Buisonjé began his role as project leader of the innovation project Healthy Society Map in 2021. In this project, he coordinates a multidisciplinary team of researchers, policymakers, public health advisors, and designers from the province of South Holland, the Municipal Health Services (GGD), and the Leiden-Delft-Erasmus universities. The project aims to improve research and policy in the field of public health.

Short CV

Before starting his PhD project at Leiden University, De Buisonjé worked as a behavioral analyst at the digital health startup Selfcare in 2015. There, he collaborated with the company's founders, software programmers, and designers to develop and implement a digital platform for health behavior change.

During his PhD project, under the supervision of Andrea Evers and Hareld Kemps, De Buisonjé initiated a collaboration with the Centre for Digital Health Interventions at ETH Zurich in Switzerland. Together, they developed a smartphone application used in two field experiments, which were also part of his dissertation. Additionally, he established a collaboration with Waybetter Inc., a company in the United States, to conduct research using their data.

De Buisonjé was elected as the spokesperson for PhD candidates in the executive board of the Department of Health, Medical, and Neuropsychology at Leiden University.

Collaborations

De Buisonjé has collaborated on various projects and programs. He has been involved in the BENEFIT project, the Healthy Society program (Medical Delta), and is a member of the Valorization Panel of Enduring Rewards at TU Delft.
