Clare Fenwick is a postdoctoral researcher within the Networks and the Rule of Law (NET-ROL) project. She studies the role of networks in weakening or strengthening the rule of law. Primarily a quantitative researcher, she uses novel, cutting-edge methods such as LLMs for extracting biographies, career trajectories and interest declarations to construct elite networks in several EU countries. 

Her previous research has focused on understanding how large-scale structural shifts – such as increasing immigration and digital transformation – challenge and reshape the foundations of welfare provision, labour markets, and ultimately socio-economic outcomes across Europe.

Prior to joining Leiden University, Clare was a Senior Research Officer at the University of Essex and  a postdoctoral researcher at Studio Europa, University of Maastricht. Clare holds a PhD in Political Economy from Leiden University. 

Her work has been published in journals such as Socio-Economic Review and European Political Science Review.
