Research
Reciprocity is the basis for fundamental ethical principles as the golden rule (“do unto others as you would have them do unto you”). Although the Bible has a lasting influence on our culture, we know surprisingly little about what reciprocity meant in biblical times. In my work I investigate the concept of reciprocity in ancient Israel, by looking at how reciprocal situations are described in language. With this research I aim to make a contribution to both biblical studies and linguistics.
Grants and awards
- 2019–2024 NWO PhDs in the Humanities
Curriculum vitae
I obtained master degrees in computing science (Radboud University, 2019, summa cum laude) and Hebrew and Aramaic studies (Leiden University, 2019, cum laude). In 2019–2024 I am supported by a PhDs in the Humanities grant of the Dutch Research Council to perform doctoral research into semantics and its interfaces with morphology and syntax in Biblical Hebrew. In this project, supervised by Johan Rooryck and Ellen van Wolde, I combine a traditional philological approach to Biblical Hebrew with formal semantic models based on testable data from modern languages.
