Bert Fraussen joined the Institute of Public Administration at Leiden University as Assistant Professor in January 2017. Previously, he was a Post-Doctoral Fellow and Lecturer in the Research School of Social Sciences at the Australian National University (ANU). He obtained his PhD at the University of Antwerp (Belgium).

His research agenda integrates the organizational design and development of political organizations, notably interest groups, and their involvement in public policy. Particular topics of interest include relations between interest groups and policymakers and the role of stakeholders in policy advisory systems. Bert's work has been published in journals such as European Journal of Political Science, Public Administration, Political Studies, Policy Sciences and the Journal of European Public Policy.

In 2014, he co-founded the Policy Advocacy Lab, together with Professor Darren Halpin and Dr Herschel Thomas. The Policy Advocacy Lab is a platform through which they engage in foundational research, workshops with practitioners and public discussion around policy advocacy. He also has a regular “Research in the Spotlight” column in Community, the professional magazine of the Belgian Society of Association Executives.

Bert is a Visiting Research Fellow at the Antwerp Centre for Institutions and Multilevel Politics and the School of Politics and International Relations at the Australian National University . Furthermore, he holds degrees in Global Management (Antwerp Management School), Public Administration (KU Leuven) and Political Science (University of Antwerp). From 2006 until 2008, he worked part-time as an assistant to a Member of the European Parliament.
