More information about Anne Jonker

Anne is a PhD student at the Van Vollenhoven Institute (VVI) since 2023. Her research focuses on the collaboration between social professionals and law enforcement professionals in the safety domain, more specifically on the dilemma’s and tensions between care and (social) control that can emerge in community-based projects combining social justice and crime control policies, and how these are addressed.

Prior to starting her PhD research, Anne has been working as a junior teacher and research assistant at the VVI. As a research assistant, she has conducted empirical research in the field of counter-terrorism and co-authored the criminological framework.

She is currently also involved in coordinating the Master Honours Course ‘Climbing the Wall of Empathy: Researching “The Other” Through Academic and Artistic Research’, and is highly interested in the intersection and collaboration between art and science.
