Professional experience

Alp completed his BSc in Industrial Engineering and Management at the University of Groningen, following the Production Technology and Logistics track. He then earned his MSc in Complex Systems Engineering and Management at TU Delft, specializing in Energy Markets and Future Energy Systems. Reflecting a versatile research background, his BSc thesis focused on developing porous stainless steel (SS-316L) structures via selective laser melting (SLM) for implant applications, while his MSc thesis developed a resilience assessment framework to evaluate how operational adaptations impact healthcare quality under disruption (COVID-19). In September 2026, he joined the Institute of Environmental Sciences (CML) at Leiden University as a PhD candidate working on the SPROUT project in collaboration with TU Delft.

Research topic

Alp's research focuses on upscaling the models for designing and optimizing multi-carrier energy hubs to a full implementation by the greenhouse horticulture sector. The research aims to identify viable business models, evaluate synergies with neighboring hubs or regional infrastructure, and quantify technical, governance, and social barriers to turn greenhouses into system-positive energy hubs that mitigate grid congestion and support the Dutch energy transition.
