Alies Jansen is a PhD Candidate in Global Transformations and Governance Challenges at the Institute for History. Her research is situated at the nexus of history, security studies, and science and technology studies. Her dissertation looks at the rapid growth of computational power that has increasingly put digital technology at the heart of military decision-making. In particular, Alies investigates how the relation between humans and artificial intelligence shapes and has shaped the data, theory, and legitimacy of military decision-making since the Cold War.
