The local government of the City of Amsterdam wants to obtain an impression of the total environmental pressure of their city. For this, they commissioned a number of studies. One of these was this project, investigating the Amsterdam metabolism. An account of the total of material flows going in, out and through Amsterdam was drafted. This overview then can serve as a basis for indicating priorities in the collection of environmental information. There is a rich body of information available for Amsterdam. It could be a valuable exercise to use the MFA framework to connect all this information. This could streamline the collection and lead to a more harmonised dataset, which could be used for a number of purposes.
