Speakers of Dutch know thousands of words, and the grammatical patterns used to form them. But how is this knowledge represented in the mind? Rather than an alphabetic dictionary and a rulebook, speakers possess a complex and richly structured network in which words and grammatical knowledge are stored in tandem.
The aim of this project is to build a digital model of this mental network. While similar models, known as constructicons, are under development for various languages, the “Morphicon” is the first to focus specifically on Dutch and on morphology, the grammar of words.
