Kickoff event interfaculty theme Migration on Monday 16 November
The interfaculty theme Migration will hold a kickoff event on Monday 16 November, for all academic staff at Leiden University. The event is intended to strengthen the network and develop ideas for the theme’s objectives.
Increased interdisciplinary research has refined our understanding of how prehistoric migration has driven major cultural and linguistic transformations. In the present, migration issues are at the heart of social and political debate. Think about migration policy and policies regarding refugees, students, and migrant workers. However, migration also plays a role in numerous other social issues, such as debates on economic growth, demographic change, social welfare, inequality, security, the labor market, healthcare, climate, and divisions among different groups in society. These complex issues require knowledge of researchers from different departments and faculties, which the interfaculty theme Migration aims to bring together. The Migration theme leads are Olaf van Vliet (FdR) (chair), Katharina Natter (FSW) and Guus Kroonen (FGW).
On Monday 16 November, the theme will be launched with a kick-off meeting. During the afternoon, researchers from various disciplines will give brief presentations on their current research into migration. There will also be an interactive session, providing an opportunity to exchange ideas and further develop the objectives for the theme.
Are you actively working on the topic of migration, or are you curious how your research could potentially contribute to this profiling theme? We warmly invite you to the kick-off meeting on Monday 16 November, which will take place 14:30 p.m. to 17:00 on the Spui campus in The Hague, room 4B.56. After 17:00, there will be drinks and room for informal discussion (for a more detailed programme description, please see the agenda-item on the right, below the 'See also' box).
