Hubble fellowship at NASA for Emiel Por

Astronomy PhD candidate Emiel Por has been selected by NASA as one of the 24 Hubble fellows in 2020. He will be conducting research at the American Space Telescope Science Institute in the fall within the programme 'Are we alone?'.

Por obtained a double bachelor's degree in physics and astronomy from Leiden University in 2013 and then a master's degree in Astronomy and Instrumentation in 2016. He expects to complete his PhD in the summer of 2020.

His research focuses on advanced instrumentation for the direct imaging of exoplanets for both ground- and space-based telescopes. He develops novel solutions for the coronagraph, which is used to observe phenomena that occur outside the edge of the sun.
