Institute of Immigration Law now part of the Europa Institute

On 1 January 2020 the Institute of Immigration Law (established in 1996) joined the Europa Institute of Leiden University.

This has created a powerful alliance that will safeguard the continuity of research and teaching in immigration law at Leiden Law School (Europa Institute), providing opportunities for future initiatives.

European law in the area of asylum and migration is having an increasingly greater impact on Dutch immigration law. In the near future, various research projects in this field conducted within various departments at the faculty will be brought together under one centre of expertise on asylum and migration.

The three key areas of focus of immigration law in Leiden are:
> conducting research in the field of immigration law at national, European and international level;
> advancing knowledge on immigration law of professionals in the Netherlands and abroad;
> teaching Dutch and European immigration law to students at Leiden University, including international students.
