Christa Tobler speaks at the interdisplinary Liechtenstein Institute

On 25 November 2019, Christa Tobler gave a lecture on "The Institutional Agreement: between the EEA and Brexit?" at the interdisciplinary Liechtenstein Institute in Bendern.

The Liechtenstein Institute is an interdisciplinary institute with the sections History, Politics, Law and Economics.

The lecture was a subpart of an event entitled "From success factor to risk factor? How Switzerland influences Liechtenstein's relations with the European Union". From an integration perspective, Liechtenstein finds itself in a challenging double situation: On the one hand, it concluded a customs treaty with Switzerland back in the 1920s, which in many respects strongly links the country to Switzerland, including a monetary union. On the other hand, it belongs to those countries of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) that have concluded the Treaty on the European Economic Area (EEA) with the EU.

The two regimes differ greatly from a legal point of view, both in terms of content and in institutional terms. At the same time, the legal and political conditions in the Liechtenstein - Switzerland - EU triangle influence each other.
