New bridge at Arsenaalplein

The municipality of Leiden is starting the construction of six bridges along the Singelpark route. The construction of these six pedestrian bridges will create an interconnected walking route of more than six kilometres long along the canals. On the Arsenaalplein, the preparatory construction work for the installation of the Aeldis bridge will start in the coming period. The construction work will start on October 7, 2019 and will continue until the end of January 2020.

From Monday October 7, on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., the contractor will start work on the replacement of the Groenhazengracht quay wall and the construction of the Aeldis bridge at the Arsenaalplein. The construction work consists of the following parts:

  • Setting up the construction site on the Arsenaalplein and Groenhazengracht;
  • Replacing the quay wall at Groenhazengracht, including the construction of foundations at Groenhazengracht and Arsenaalplein;
  • Assembly and dismantling of the steel bridge;
  • Completion of the surrounding area; streets and masonry work.

Replacing the quay wall and building the foundations will probably take 13 weeks. The steel Aeldisbrug will be placed at the end of January 2020. After that, another two weeks will be needed for the completion of the bridge and its surroundings.

The local residents will be informed by the municipality of Leiden.

The contractor Dura Vermeer will build the bridges commissioned by the municipality of Leiden.
