Women in science
Today, 8 March, marks International Women's Day. Leiden University fosters her female, talented staff members, and continues to strive towards more women on leading scientific positions.
In 2018, about 29% of Leiden University professors was a woman, and the number keeps growing - the goal being a more equal distribution of professorships. And we also encourage the female scientists of the future: today, a few of our female professors will meet and talk with high school girls (coverage to follow). Because role models are important to inspire the next generation.

In 2018 on International Women's Day, we revealed 13 new portraits of female professors in our Senate Chamber. Now, the walls of one of the most important ceremonial rooms of our university are no longer covered in only men.
