Can you talk for three minutes in glowing terms about your science or medical research? If so, sign up for the Leiden preliminary round of FameLab, the international competition for science communication.

Competition for young researchers

FameLab is an international competition in the area of science communication, organised by the British Council. Young scientists, medical and biomedical scientists (BSc, MSc, PhD candidates) from 21 to 40 compete with one another to explain their research to a mixed audience of non-experts in an understandable and appealing way.  PowerPoints are not permitted; the participants may only use two objects to illustrate their talk. Leiden preliminary round

The Leiden preliminary round of FameLab 2019 is on 7 March at 16.00 hrs in the Academy Building. The young researchers will be judged by an expert jury based on three aspects: the content, the clarity of their presentation and their charisma. Researchers who are interested in taking part have until 14 February to register. If more than 15 candidates apply, a pre-selection will take place in discussion with the jury. The candidates selected will be given a pitch training in the last week of February.

National finals

The two winners of the Leiden preliminary round will represent the University in the national finals in Utrecht. Before taking part, the finalists will have a masterclass in science communication from experts in the UK. The winner will go on to the international final in Cheltenham, United Kingdom.
