Christa Tobler guest lecturer at the University of Vienna on the subject of multiple discrimination
During this semester, the University of Vienna offers the 19th lecture series on Gender Studies. On 21 November 2017, Christa Tobler, Professor of European Law at the Universities of Basel (Switzerland) and Leiden, gave a lecture on the subject of multiple discrimination, including also sex.
This also includes the complex case of intersectional discrimination. According to recent case law of the Court of Justice of the European Union, EU law does not cover situations where the discrimination results from the combination of more than one ground, but only situations where the discrimination is found to exist on the basis of those grounds taken in isolation. Equinet, the network of national equality bodies, has published a useful report on this issue.
