Mr. Sechie Philip receives Wim Deetman Scholarship

The Grotius Centre congratulates LL.M. Public International Law student Mr. Sechie Philip from Nigeria as one of the recipients of the Wim Deetman Scholarship 2017-2018.

The scholarship is a private initiative by the Wim Deetman Scholarship Foundation, with support from the Municipality of The Hague. The scholarship was presented to Wim Deetman when he left office as mayor of The Hague in 2008. The scholarship is meant for students from developing countries who would like to study for a master’s degree in Leiden/The Hague in the area of peace and justice. To be considered for the scholarship students must have obtained good academic results, show an outstanding motivation for their chosen programme and show that they are socially engaged. Recipients are expected to become ambassadors for peace and justice for the city of The Hague.

The ceremony took place at The Hague Institute for Global Justice on 24 October and was opened by Deputy Mayor Saskia Bruines, The Hague's alderman for the Knowledge Economy, International Affairs, Youth and Education.
