Bachelor programme Mathematics labelled "topopleiding"
The "Keuzegids Universiteiten 2017" has labelled the bachelor programme in Mathematics a "topopleiding"; this is to say that it fulfils the highest standards. Together with the programme at the Radboud Universiteit it ranks highest on the list of Mathematics programmes in the Netherlands.
Praise
‘Not only the students praise the Leiden programme, also the experts’, according to the Keuzegids. The mathematics bachelors of both Leiden and Nijmegen obtained 80 points out of 100, slightly ahead of Utrecht with 78 points, which also received the "top" label. Programme director Bart de Smit commented: 'We steken veel energie in onze opleiding, en we zijn blij dat dat effect heeft.'
Method
The Keuzegids Universiteiten 2017 compares the bachelor programmes of all universities in the Netherlands. Its writers base their evaluation both on the opinion of the students, as expressed in the "Nationale Studentenenquête", and on the opinion of the specialists of the "Nederlands-Vlaamse Accreditatieorganisatie" NVAO.
Job perspective
Mathematicians easily find jobs, and usually at an academic level, according to the Keuzegids, in fields ranging from physics to health care.
