Documentary Ildikó Plájás wins award film festival Romania
Visual Ethnography graduate Ildikó Plájás received the Best documentary award in the student competition at the international Astra Film Festival in Romania.
The documentary Swamp Dialogues, made by Ildikó in 2014 as her graduation project for the special MA track of her studies in Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology, was praised by the jury for a compelling storytelling through simple people’s dialogues. The jury was impressed by the delicate and comprehensive investigation, great casting of the protagonists and authentic use of the nature as a character as well.
Swamp Dialogues focuses on the UNESCO World Heritage Site – the 'Last European Sanctuary’ – in the Danube Delta and the plight of its local communities, largely overlooked while major efforts are made to protect biodiversity. The documentary already went on an international tour as it was already selected and screened at eight other international film festivals, including Beeld voor Beeld in Amsterdam, EthnoFilmFest in Munich, the FIFEQ Montreal , and the Jean Rouch International Film Festival in Paris.
