New EU-Swiss negotiations

A broad package of measures has been launched to deepen and expand the EU-Switzerland relationship. Christa Tobler was interviewed by both Süddeutsche Zeitung and ARD/Deutschlandfunk about these developments.

EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and President of the Swiss Confederation Viola Amherd launched the negotiations on 18 March 2024. An earlier round of negotiations had been abandoned by the Swiss Federal Government. On 8 and 12 March 2024, respectively, the parties adopted new negotiating mandates which authorise the Commission and Switzerland to negotiate the package outlined in the Common Understanding. This had been endorsed by the Swiss Federal Government and the European Commission towards the end of 2023 following exploratory talks. In this context, Christa Tobler was interviewed both by the Süddeutsche Zeitung and the ARD/Deutschlandfunk.
