Leidschrift, nr. 1, 2015, De invloed van steppevolkeren. Mongools juk of Pax Mongolica? 
Al in de veertiende eeuw  werd de steppe door de Arabische historicus Ibn Khaldun omschreven als een bron van vernieuwing. Steppeconfederaties zoals die van de Mongolen hebben zowel direct als indirect een grote impact gehad op diverse aspecten van de wereldgeschiedenis. Zo heeft de Turko-Mongoolse traditie het politieke denken in het Midden-Oosten sterk beïnvloed en zorgde de Pax Mongolica voor een herleving van de handel via de zijderoute. Ook de militaire kracht van deze nomadische ruiters, die de aanzet gaf voor volksverhuizingen,  was een factor van belang.  In het januarinummer van Leidschrift zal de invloed van de steppevolkeren en hun relatie met de sedentaire wereld verder worden onderzocht.
