About the event
Climate diplomacy, as a separate field of diplomatic practice, gained traction over the last fifteen years. This practice led to the successful singing of the Paris Agreement in 2015, which also led to enhanced climate action in several policy sectors and institutions. Nevertheless, current international developments have resulted to undermining progress towards achieving climate goals. The so-called recent geopolitical turn in international relations gives greater emphasis to the use of fossil fuels and other minerals without paying attention to their environmental and climate impacts. In this event, with both academics and practicioners, we will discuss the state of climate diplomacy today and how it can move beyond challenges and barriers to continue offering a framework for fruitful negotiations for implementable solutions.
