The objective of the research project is to explore in what ways climatization influences EU governance and impacts the power of the institutional actors. To do so, the case study of maritime transport will be employed, as it is one of the main policy areas indicated in the Fit for 55 package as crucial for the decarbonization of the European continent. In more detail, the project will analyze, first, the role of the supranational actors in promoting climate policies within the EU, with a focus on maritime transport; second, the implementation of the new green maritime transport policies by key stakeholders within the EU Member States; and, third, the impact of the said new policies on the EUs diplomatic positions at the international level and how these are perceived by third actors. The project’s supervisor is Associate Professor Karolina Pomorska and is hosted at the Institute of Political Science at Leiden University.
