About the event

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the event has been postponed. A new date will be announced in due course.

Human rights around the world are under pressure, with an increase in conflict and violence, the human rights impacts of climate change, rising authoritarianism and inequalities, and accelerating advances in terms of digital technologies and artificial intelligence, with as yet unknown consequences. The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights is one of the most prominent and significant actors at the international level trying to improve this situation.

Geopolitical struggles and strains on the budget of the United Nations, however, are posing challenges for the work of the Office and broader efforts to promote and protect human rights. In this public lecture by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, we will consider future opportunities to strengthen the UN’s human rights pillar and the enjoyment of human rights in a fragmented world.
