We're delighted to announce the launch of the eLaw Summer School based on the theme of 'Regulating AI and data in an age of EU Digital Reforms'. This event is scheduled to take place from Monday 24 June to Friday 28 June 2024 at Leiden University. This unique educational opportunity is for individuals with a prior background in law and digital technologies and is open to graduates, PhD researchers, Data Protection Officers (DPOs), professionals and members of institutions. 

Duration and structure: The programme will span five days and will be packed with informative, inspiring sessions during the morning and engaging workshop activities during the afternoon.

Speakers: Each morning session will feature two eminent speakers from the academic world, institutions and businesses, offering a rich variety of perspectives on the topics covered.

Interactive workshops: The afternoon sessions will be dedicated to hands-on workshop activities that enable participants to apply their knowledge in practical scenarios and engage in meaningful discussions.

Limited spaces: The course has a maximum capacity of 45 participants, with space for 15 online attendees. This ensures an intimate, focused learning environment.

Programme topics

The eLaw Summer School will cover a range of critical topics at the forefront of EU digital reforms, including: 

  • an in-depth look at the GDPR eight years after its approval, exploring the many silent reforms that have taken place, in connection with DMA, DGA, DSA, DA, AIA;
  • comprehensive analysis of the AI Act, discussing its details, rules, opportunities and challenges in the commercial field, criminal law and the law enforcement sector;
  • examination of the interaction between AI regulation, the Data Protection framework and privacy case law;
  • an overview of platform regulation across various EU rules, from the Digital Services Act (DSA) to the consumer protection acquis;
  • discussion of the Fundamental Rights Impact Assessment within the context of various pieces of legislation (GDPR, AI Act, DSA) and digital vulnerability.
