Extracurricular

Get the most out of your studies at Leiden University by taking part in our extracurricular activities.

Community building

Throughout the year, activities are organised by your programme and affiliated research institutes—like the Leiden University Centre for the Study of Islam and Society (LUCIS) and the International Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS). Join lecture series such as What’s New!?, attend film screenings, or participate in workshops and informal gatherings that bring students and faculty together across fields and interests.

Study associations also host film nights, debates, museum visits, and social events - perfect for meeting fellow students and building friendships outside of class.

Study adviser

During the first weeks of their study, students are expected to meet with their study adviser to discuss their programme.  The study adviser can help you if you have specific questions relating to the academic content of the programme, exam regulations, courses and study scheduling (and delay) of your studies.

Uhlenbeck scholarship programme

For research master’s students, the Faculty of Humanities has set up the Uhlenbeck scholarship programme. If you would like to spend a period of time abroad for field work, research or a study exchange, you can apply for a (supplementary) scholarship.

Leiden Leadership Programme

If you’re interested in developing your leadership potential, the Leiden Leadership Programme offers training sessions, seminars, and a Personal Leadership Roadmap to help you grow.
