This specialisation combines advanced training in astronomical research at a world-class institute with a strong focus on high-tech instrumentation and its applications. You will also gain essential insights into technology development, innovation, and engineering, preparing you to bridge the gap between cutting-edge science and industrial solutions.

Programme outline

The Astronomy and High-Tech Innovation specialisation combines in-depth training in astronomy with a strong focus on high-tech instrumental and engineering applications. The astronomy component includes a Master’s Research Project carried out within one of the research groups at Leiden Observatory, culminating in a Master’s thesis and an oral presentation. You will also take a selection of advanced astronomy courses tailored to your interests. 

Within the High-Tech Innovation component, you will take courses from the High-Tech Innovation electives and complete a research project in an industrial setting, applying your scientific and technical expertise:  

  • The high-tech innovation track is designed for students aiming for careers in the high-tech and semiconductor industries. It equips you with a solid understanding of key engineering principles and innovation skills, enabling you to bridge the gap between cutting-edge scientific research and technological applications.
