European Approaches to Societal Challenges
This inter-disciplinary minor programme introduces you to European approaches in addressing today’s biggest challenges: security, migration, climate change, economic inequality and health. By adopting different disciplinary perspectives you will gain a deeper understanding of these challenges and discuss potential solutions.
The programme starts by providing the basic concepts and knowledge necessary for studying contemporary politics, societies and governance in Europe. You will gain insight in institutional architecture of governance at the local, national, European and global levels. Then you will study five pressing societal challenges – security, migration, climate change, economic inequality and health - from a historical, legal, political, and governance perspective. Special attention will be paid to developments in artificial intelligence, social networks and digital technologies.
This programme will give you an in-depth understanding of the complex challenges facing European societies today. You will learn how these challenges interact with one another and how they transcend national borders. Also, you will learn about both the difficulties and the potential of coordinated policy solutions, who the crucial actors are and what is required to make Europe future-proof.
