What did PhD ceremonies look like through the centuries? From a plush thesis cover and ornate graduation prints to a historic gown, wax seals, and menu cards: Hora est! showcases the doctoral ceremony in its most festive, formal, and surprising forms.

The exhibition brings together items from the collections of the Academic Historical Museum, Leiden University Library, and the Beadle’s Office. It is organized in celebration of our anniversary: in 2025 we mark our 450th year, with the lustrum theme Ahead of the times.
