Research
Prof. dr. Wim Willems has written a number of books on immigrants and ethnic minorities and has edited several volumes (in Dutch) on Dutch from the former East-Indies and colonial history. He has also written widely on the history of traveling groups, especially Gypsies and caravan-dwellers. He was involved in projects on 'Gypsies and other itinerant groups, a socio-historical approach', 'The return and reception of 'Dutch repatriates' from the Indies after the Second World War' and 'The history of Dutch migrants from the Netherlands Indies in a comparative perspective, 1945-1995' and 'Life stories of the twentieth century'. He has worked on a range of research projects in the fields of urban studies and historical migration studies - see the coming book on Polish migrants. Apart from that he had a series on the history of The Hague in the AD/Haagsche Courant. Prof. dr. Wim Willems was director of the Centre for Modern Urban Studies at Faculty Governance and Global Affairs, Leiden University.
