Professional Experience
Willie Peijnenburg graduated in 1984 in organic chemistry from Eindhoven University of Technology. In 1988 he received his PhD for the thesis entitled “An Experimental and Quantumchemical Study on the Mechanism and Stereochemistry of Photochemical [1,3] Sigmatropic Shifts”.
Following completion of the Ph.D. thesis, he started a career at the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM), and now holds the position of Project Manager/Scientific coordinator at the Laboratory for Ecological Risk Assessment. His main research interests are related to developing predictive models to assess the fate and effects of classical and emerging chemicals in the environment, and the assessment of the mutual impact of chemical and non-chemical stressors on ecosystem sustainability.
At CML he holds the Research Chair “Environmental Toxicology and Biodiversity”. Within this newly established chair, the focus is on studying the actual impacts of interactions of chemical and non-chemical stressors (like climate change, changing land use, emission of emerging chemicals) on biodiversity.
