Professional experience

Weilin gained her double M.Sc. degree of ‘Geo-information Science and Earth Observation’ in 2017 at University of Twente (ITC faculty), The Netherlands and Beijing Normal University (BNU), the P.R. China. Her MSc thesis is about the spatio-temporal changes in forest cover in semi-arid regions of China. Using satellite image time series, Weilin has examined the impacts of climate and of human activities on forest cover in the past decades. Weilin has started her PhD at the Conservation Biology Department at CML in 2017.

Research topic

The research of Weilin focuses on the impact of plant-fungal symbiosis, so-called mycorrhiza, on soil carbon sequestration. She aims to model the role of mycorrhiza in global soil carbon sequestration. Weilin uses the YASSO model to predict the impacts of mycorrhiza on carbon sequestration for the current climate and under conditions of future climate and land use change.
