Tim Hensen is a postdoctoral researcher at the Metabolomics and Analytics Centre, working within the Data Analytics and Management group. He received his PhD in computational systems biology from the University of Galway, supervised by Professor Ines Thiele, with a thesis on constraint-based modelling of host–microbiome co-metabolism in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. He also holds an MSc in systems biology from Maastricht University and a BSc in biology from Leiden University.

Tim's research is focussed on constraint-based whole-body metabolic modelling and its integration with clinical metabolomics and machine learning. He is part of the DIMESA project, which aims to uncover the underlying physiological causes of fatigue and burnout. For this project, he is developing algorithms that utilise whole-body metabolic models to identify the somatic abnormalities underlying these conditions.
