Simeng studied at Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology (NUIST), where she spent seven years completing her bachelor's and master's degrees in atmospheric physics at the School of Atmospheric Physics. Her research focused on ozone depletion events and heterogeneous bromine chemistry. During this time, she received the National Scholarship, the Pacemaker to Merit Student award, and the Outstanding Graduate distinction.

In January 2023, she moved to the Netherlands to begin her PhD at the Institute of Environmental Sciences (CML), Leiden University, in collaboration with TNO, under the supervision of Prof. dr. ing. Jan Willem Erisman and Dr. Enrico Dammers. Her work focuses on nitrogen modelling and emission inversion, with a particular emphasis on using observations to improve estimates of atmospheric ammonia emissions.

Simeng's PhD is part of the NKS project. She is investigating atmospheric ammonia emissions and using both in situ and satellite measurements to improve emission estimates for the Netherlands.
