Research

Prof .dr. P.G. Hoftijzer (1954) is P.A. Tiele professor in the history of the early-modern Dutch book. He studied history at Leiden University and obtained his PhD from Radboud University in Nijmegen in 1987. He has published widely on the history of publishing, bookselling, reading, and book collecting in the Dutch Republic, with a special interest in Anglo-Dutch book trade relations and in the position of Leiden as one of the foremost European centres of academic publishing, bookselling, and collecting. He has been engaged in Dutch and English national book history projects and is active in numerous organisations, institutions, and journals concerned with the history of books and libraries.
