Misato Okaneya is a PhD candidate in Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology at Leiden University. She is part of the ERC project "Climate Citizenship: Infrastructures, Environments, and Democracy in the Era of Climate Change". She examines the shift in social relations around green infrastructure initiatives amid climate change in Japan.

Misato holds bachelor's and master's degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of Tokyo. Her previous work explored how climate change affects diverse populations unequally through food systems.

Before her PhD, she studied home cooking around the world and published six trade books in Japanese that reveal broader social issues through food.
