Mathilde Witkam (LL.M) works as a legal professional at the Netherlands Council for Real Estate Assessment. This is the national supervisor on valuation of property by municipalities, for instance for property tax purposes. Their mission is: “The Council enhances trust in an adequate implementation of the Special Act for Real Estate Assessment”.

This mission calls for further research on the determinants of and differences in citizen trust in government. Building upon a well-established research field of public trust, this study examines the effect of several components of government openness on public trust, in a local government context.
