Marja Verstelle is currently working in two positions. First, as quartermaster at the strategic alliance Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Universities (LDE), where she initiates projects and supervises communities to remove barriers to joint education and student exchange. Secondly, she works as senior lead UNA Europe in Leiden, focusing on establishing joint educational initiatives in this European alliance, in cooperation with the faculties. Prior to that, she also held two roles for many years. That of programme manager of the university's digital learning innovation programme and strategic policy advisor to the vice-rector at the Directorate of Strategy and Academic Affairs, as well as that of lead /co-founder of the Learning Innovation hub of the Centre for Innovation. With this dual role, she fulfilled a bridge between innovation, strategy and university policy.

Marja Verstelle is a first point of contact for new project ideas. She has been working in the field of learning and new media, learning innovation and culture change for over 25 years. She held various positions in education and business, from educational consultant to strategic policy advisor, from manager to trainer, project and programme leader.

Prior to that, she also held two roles for many years. In her work, she interacts with university and faculty administrators to teachers and students. Together with them, she sets up innovative educational projects and explores their strategic impact for teaching: with the “Best of Both Worlds” approach that uses the best of both online and offline opportunities. She introduced many innovations in the university such as the digital learning environment, social media for learning, AR/VR, and MOOCs and online learning for credit. Before that, she held, among other things, the role of chief editor of SURFspace.nl, the national portal on innovation with ICT in education and research, for eight years. Marja Verstelle regularly gives presentations at national and international professional conferences.
