In January 2019 Josette Daemen started as a doctoral student at the Institute of Political Science in Leiden. Previously she obtained a BSc and MSc degree in political science from the same institute. Afterwards she studied political theory at the University of Oxford, where she obtained the title of MPhil with a thesis about the idea of a basic income viewed from the perspective of luck egalitarian theory.

For her doctoral research she explores the political philosophy of security, understood as sureness about one’s future enjoyment of goods. Her academic interests lie in the field of normative political philosophy more generally, and distributive justice and nonideal theory in particular.
