More information about Jianhong Zhou

Professional experience

Jianhong Zhou received her MSc (2015) degree in Ecology from East China Normal University (ECNU), Shanghai, China. She conducted her master research in an enclosed tidal wetland located at the east of Chongming Island to investigate the soil salinity dynamics after reclamation and its effect on plant growth in the context of climate change by long-term monitoring. During her master study, she was awarded a fund from ECNU as a visiting student to the University of California, Riverside, USA for three months.

In 2016, she received CSC scholarship to study in the Netherlands for a doctorate. She spent one year at Soil Physics and Land Management Group in Wageningen University. Since September 2017, she has joined the Institute of Environmental Sciences (CML) under the supervision of Professor Peter van Bodegom to pursue her doctorate degree.

Research topic

Jianhong’s research topic is on plasticity and adaptation rates of plant species to changing climatic conditions, which focuses on the application of a trait-based approach to analyze the global pattern of intraspecific variability using plasticity and genetic adaptation trait databases. The aim of her research is trying to find out the mechanisms underlying plant plasticity and the different responses of plant species to climate change, which will help to predict species assembly within communities under future climate conditions.
