Biography
Jeroen Bussmann graduated with a degree (cum laude) in biotechnology from Wageningen University in 2004. In 2009, he obtained his PhD in developmental genetics of the cardiovascular system at the Hubrecht Institute in Utrecht under supervision of Prof. Dr. S. Schulte-Merker. After postdoctoral studies at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Biomedicine and the University Clinic in Münster, Germany, he obtained a NWO-VENI grant in 2013 to start a research line at Leiden University on the interactions between nanoparticles and the cardiovascular system. He has published his research in high impact journals such as Nature Immunology, Nature Genetics, Developmental Cell and ACS Nano. Currently, he focusses on the role of vascular endothelial cells in the clearance of nanoparticles and protein aggregates and its implications for (targeted) drug delivery
