Jasper van den Boom is Assistant Professor EU Competition law at the Europea Institute at Leiden University.

Jasper specializes in the application of competition law to digital markets and digital economic regulation. In 2025 he published his book “Regulating Competition in the Digital Network Industry” with Cambridge University Press. Jasper has published various peer-reviewed articles on abuse of dominance and merger control in digital markets, digital regulation, and sectoral regulation. Recent work includes comparative research on the Digital Markets Act, Digital Markets, Competition, and Consumers Act and Section 19a of the German Act Against Restraints of Competition. As well as the need for effective remedy design in EU competition law procedures and institutional cooperation in digital regulation.

Jasper obtained his PhD degree from Tilburg University in 2023 and has worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Academic Collaborative Centre for Climate & Energy (Tilburg University) as day-to-day coordinator from 2023 to 2024. The ACCCE is a collaborative effort between knowledge institutes, policymakers, and industry participants to accelerate the energy transition. Jasper specialized in energy storage in terms of substantive research. From 2024 to 2025 Jasper was the day-to-day coordinator for the project “Shaping Competition in the Digital Age” at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf.

Jasper is currently lecturing in courses on competition law, law & practice, and digital regulation. In terms of research he is working on effective policy interventions as co-PI of the ADAPT project, writing a book on best practices in digital regulation (forthcoming 2027). He is also editor-in-chief of the European Competition Journal starting January 2026.
