Dr. Jasper van den Boom is assistant professor EU competition law at the Europa Institute at Leiden University. His research focuses in particular on competition in digital markets and digital regulation including the Digital Markets Act (EU), as well as comparative research between EU, UK, and US antitrust and regulation related to digital markets.

Before joining the Europa institute in 2025, he has worked at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf in the project Shaping Competition in the Digital Age and as a researcher in the Academic Collaborative Center Climate & Energy at Tilburg University. He has written his PhD thesis titled “Regulating Competition in the Digital Network Industry” at Tilburg University, where he studied the potential role of competition in- and between digital ecosystems in shaping digital regulation.
