Jacqueline Zadelaar is an assistant professor at the Methodology and Statistics unit.

Research on decision-making

Different people make different decisions in the same situation. Mathematical models may be employed to detect what cognitive or emotional processes underly such behavioral differences. This may provide a better understanding of general differences as well as developmental changes in, and (mal-)adaptive displays of decision making. Additionally, this form of modeling can be utilized to empirically compare different theories aimed at explaining the same decision behaviors to see which theories find the most support in actual data.

Current research focuses primarily on the exploration and application of Bayesian (hierarchical mixture) models for the aforementioned purposes as well increasing awareness and accessibility of such methods.

Teaching

Jacqueline coordinates and teaches the Psychology bachelor/premaster course Psychometrics, teaches the Psychology master course Statistical Mediation & Moderation. She also provides a Scientific Writing workshop for the master Statistics & Data Science, supervises bachelor theses, and teaches the bachelor elective Inferential Statistics at Urban Studies in The Hague. A course or summer school on Bayesian statistics is currently under consideration.

Short CV

In 2020, she obtained her PhD at the Universiteit van Amsterdam (UvA), at the department of Developmental Psychology, for dissertation research on the computational modelling of psychological decision making processes, focusing on developmental and individual differences therein. From 2020 to 2022 she worked at the Vrije Universiteit (VU) Amsterdam as an Assistant Professor at the department of Educational and Family studies.
